Since 2003, NCAR has been hosting Girl Scouts at NCAR Day for approximately 70 scouts from the metro Denver region. Members of NCAR's Advanced Study Program and educators from Spark collaborate annually with interested women at NCAR – scientists, mathematicans, computer programmers, engineers, educational designers, communication experts, administrators and more – to create a day that not only inspires and engages, but also offers opportunities for attendees to explore science and meet the women who's work is science.
Highlights of the event consistently are launching and learning about weather balloons (above left photo), watching a reinactment of portions of Marie Sklodowka Curie's life and discovery of radioactivity (above right photo), and meeting, talking, and doing science with role models in science, math, engineering and technology careers.
Questions or additional information can be obtained by contacting a representative from NCAR's Advanced Study Program or Spark UCAR Science Education.
